Literature Text

The line goes dead,
But I can't hang up.
The news paralyzes me.
The receiver falls to the floor
And shatters to pieces
Like the heart in my chest.
My head is pounding
As a tear forms in my eye.
I stop to catch my breath
Before I try to stand.
When the dizziness settles
I run to my room,
And slamming the door behind me
I fling my shaky body onto my bed.
Using my pillow as a handkerchief
I cry as I remember
Growing up with you around
To point me in the right direction.
Now in a matter of time you can be gone,
And to think about losing you,
Is killing me.
this is about when i found out my great-grandmother was on hospice. i was in georgia and the day after i got home she passed away. her and my great-grandfather were like my family heroes. they grew up on farms and had this romantic story of how they met. their life and relationship intrigued me. i miss them both terribly. everyday i have to remind myself that they are gone.
